Announcement of the 2011 NZICA Leadership Awards finalists
The New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants' CE Terry McLaughlin today announced the finalists of this year’s Leadership Awards.
“The 2011 NZICA Leadership Award finalists are a reflection of our membership. The calibre of this years finalists are outstanding and a testament to the opportunities that are available for NZICA Members. I am also particularly pleased to announce the finalists in our new category - Public Sector CFO of the Year Award.”
Crombie Lockwood Chartered Accountant of the Year
Jan Dawson FCA
As CEO and Chair of KPMG, Jan became the first woman to head a Big 4 chartered accounting firm in Australasia. She currently holds a variety of Directorship and Board positions.
Nikki Fowler CA
Nikki has moved from traditional accounting practice to senior financial governance in the banking sector. She is also active in the voluntary sector.
Roger France FCA
Roger has worked in chartered accounting, Chief Financial Officer positions, and has now moved into governance. Among other roles, he is in his third year as Chancellor of the University of Auckland.
Westpac Outstanding New Member of the Year
Brett Banner CA
Brett has a background in the public sector with the Ministries of Justice, Defence and Culture and Heritage. He was recently appointed CFO at the Commerce Commission.
Conal McMahon CA
Conal has a mix of private and public sector work experience in New Zealand and Asia. Among other roles he is Chair of the Wellington Young Accountants Group and Treasurer of the Young Japanese NZ Business Council Committee. He is currently Manager of Censere Group and based in Shanghai.
Joe Hanita CA
Joe has a background in public practice with Waikato accounting firms. He is Chair of the Nga Kaitatau Maori o Aotearoa (Maori Accountants Network) and a member of NZICA's Public Sector Advisory Group. Joe is currently employed with Te Wananga o Aotearoa as group accountant.
Kate Vogel CA
Kate joined PwC as a graduate and has become a valued driver of strategy and growth in the firm’s audit and assurance business through Waikato and the Bay of Plenty.

Lara Ariel CA
CFO, Ministry of Justice Lara has private sector and public sector experience and has demonstrated a commitment to sound financial practice and the provision of practical ‘user friendly’ advice. Sustainable financial management is a core plank of her role at MoJ.
Paul Anderson CA
GM Corporate Services Christchurch City Council Paul led the CCC’s business operations during three states of emergency. He introduced ‘balanced scorecard’ management systems that led to CCC being inducted into the Harvard Business School Balanced Scorecard Hall of Fame.
Scott Scoullar CA
CFO, Inland Revenue Scoullar spent 12 years in the corporate banking industry in financial reporting and performance management roles before joining the public service. He is a member of NZICAs Public Sector Advisory Group.
