Chair - Stephen Stafford-Bush FCA, Director

Stephen began his career in 1976 straight from school, spending two years learning the ropes at Porter Wigglesworth and Grayburn in Auckland. He then chose full time study for two years, working towards an accounting qualification.

He completed this while working at Peat Marwick, now KPMG, in the audit department. While with KPMG, he worked in their London office, and then worked as a manager in their audit department when he returned home. After a role with Audit New Zealand, Stafford-Bush went back to KPMG to help establish their Risk Management, Internal Audit and Fraud Prevention and Investigation Department.

The pace of life changed in the nineties after buying a lifestyle block in Karaka. "I decided in 1995 that life had more to offer than spending hours on the motorway, the great South Auckland car park as it became known, and so resigned and started working for myself from home." Stephen enjoyed the change in pace and subsequently bought a well-established accounting practice in Waiuku.

He has been a Director at McConnell Stafford-Bush and Associates for two years following the merger with a Pukekohe practice.

Stephen’s vision for the Regional Advisory Group is to deliver the same high level of service and support to regional practices and primary sector accountants and clients as the Primary Sector Committee did in the past. He says the group has an excellent group of people with diverse experiences and strengths. "The primary sector… has some key challenges ahead including developing efficiencies in productive capacity, solutions for volatility in returns, reliability in infrastructure and sustainability which are all areas where our committee can have input and comment."
